The price of gas is going up even though crude oil is at its lowest price in a year and half.
While drivers are crying foul, economists say it's no surprise.
Frank Atkins, a University of Calgary economist says gas retailers are simply charging more because they can.
Atkins says "so now with the demand increase they actually have a chance to bring their profits up to something reasonable. So they are actually making money now as opposed to the last several months when they were actually making no money".
Atkins adds "it's free enterprise at work".
