Calgary police have arrested three men following a dramatic police incident in the downtown core and have charged one man with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

The incident began around 9:20 p.m. on Sunday night when police tried to pull over a suspicious vehicle in the northeast neighbourhood of Coral Springs.

The car took off and HAWC and ground units tracked the vehicle through the city.

Police say that the suspect vehicle was observed speeding the wrong way down one-way streets and running red lights.

The driver exited the vehicle at about 10:00 and tried to run to another vehicle when he was arrested.

Sheldon David Marcellus, 34, is charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, failing to stop for a peace officer, operating of a vehicle while disqualified, operating an unregistered motor vehicle and driving an uninsured motor vehicle.

He will appear in court on Thursday, January 9, 2014.
