Calgary police have charged three men in connection to a bank robbery that happened in the southwest on Wednesday.

At around 5:00 p.m., police were called to a Bank of Montreal in the 2300 block of 4 Street S.W., for reports of a robbery in progress.

Officers contained the area to ensure the safety of the public while they worked to see if any suspects remained in the bank.

Three men fled the scene and were tracked down and taken into custody.

“There was a foot chase involving at least two of the suspects and possibly even a third,” says Duty Inspector Mike Tillotson. “They were apprehended quite quickly. I think it was within a few blocks by the officers.”

Investigators say they believe firearms were used during the hold-up and that the workers were locked inside a room in the bank while it was happening.

Employees were able to safely leave the bank at about 9:00 p.m. and the Victim Assistance Unit was called in to provide support.

No major injuries were reported but one person was assessed by EMS for a minor injury.

Lucas Wayne Windsor, 21, Saleem Obaid Nasery, 21, and Matthew Alexis Valdes, 23, all of Calgary, have each been charged with:

  • One count of disguise with intent to commit an indictable offence
  • Seven counts of forcible confinement
  • Seven counts of robbery using a firearm
  • One count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

All three are expected to appear in court on Friday, November 28, 2014.

The investigation continues by the Robbery Unit and anyone with information about this incident is asked to call police at 403-266-1234, or Crime Stoppers anonymously using any of the following methods:
