Three women, convicted of assaulting a 92-year-old man at a Calgary care home, have been sentenced in connection with the incident that took place last year.

In February 2014, three women who worked at the Carewest Garrison Green Home were caught on tape assaulting Ulrich Wissner, a client at the home who was bed-ridden and frail.

Wissner told his family that he was being abused at the facility and they took steps to install a hidden camera in his room, which managed to catch Maria Dumo, Angelina Borja, and May Casimero using excessive force to move him, change his diaper, and gown.

The women were also seen flicking water at him, binding his wrists, slapping him, and threatening to pour his own urine on him.

All three women have since been fired from their positions at the care home and a judge handed down a 60 day sentence to each of them, to be served on the weekends.

Carewest Innovative Health Care’s Chief Operating Officer, Dwight nelson, issued a statement on Wednesday saying…

Carewest enforces the Protection for Persons in Care Act (PPCA) that provides protection from abuse for people in our care.

When Carewest Garrison Green became aware of the incident, the information was immediately investigated and acted upon, resulting in the termination of three employees on February 10, 2014.

Referral of the matter was also made to Protection for Persons in Care and the Calgary Police Service.

Carewest continues to reinforce high care standards and expectations that all caregivers should be held accountable to, in providing the kind of care that residents, clients and families envision for themselves and their loved ones.

The trio will be on probation for one year and will also serve 30 hours of community service.
