It was a difficult day for the friends and family of the five young people who died last week at a home in Brentwood as memorial services were held for three of the victims.

Services for Jordan Segura, Kaiti Perras, and Josh Hunter were held on Monday.

The funeral service for Jordan Segura was held at 10 a.m. at the Chapel of the Bells and he was remembered on Sunday during a memorial service.

Segura was studying religion at the U of C and worked part-time at McInnis and Holloway, where he was considering pursuing a career.

"He was very popular with staff. He kept in touch with staff and he was just a likeable individual," said owner Ernie Hagel, who knew Segura well.

"We deal with grief. We help people through grief. We've got to do what we believe in and provide the funeral service and have a service that has meaning and value so the family can get on with their grief recovery process," he added. "It's devastating. We don't understand how things happen and it's such a waste. It just shows how fragile life really is."

Jordan's older brother, Jullien, spoke at the service saying his brother was never afraid to speak his truth and friends talked about his love for his family.

Jullien said he enjoyed being Segura’s big brother. "I would pick on him just because I was bigger, but I made sure everyone knew that only I was allowed to pick on him," he said.

Kaiti Perras was remembered in a service at 1:00 p.m. at First Alliance Church and dozens of purple balloons were released into the sky in her honour.

Perras was a ballet dancer and a scholarship fund has been established in her name to support underprivileged children who can’t afford to study dance.

Her uncle, Galen Perras spoke on behalf of the family saying, "Devastation does not describe it. Her family will miss her more that we can ever say."

The funeral for Josh Hunter was at 2:00 p.m. at Christ Church in the city's southwest and friends and family gathered outside to comfort each other.

Hunter, 23,  was a business student and bandmates with Zackariah Rathwell, one of the other victims of the stabbing.

Family friends say he lived life fully and wanted those around him to do the same.

"Josh would want us to view his ending as a starting point for us to live more fully," said Peter Gammell. "it would be Josh's call to action to us."

Services for Zackariah Rathwell will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Centre Street Church.

Lawrence Hong, the fifth victim of the stabbing, will be laid to rest following a service at the Centre Street Church at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Matthew de Grood, 22, has been charged with five counts of first degree murder.

He had completed a psychology degree from the University of Calgary last year and had been accepted into law school for the fall.

The suspect is due to appear in court Tuesday to face the allegations.
