A young boy has been airlifted to the Alberta Children’s Hospital following a Sunday afternoon highway collision in central Alberta which claimed two lives.

According to RCMP, at approximately 1:00 p.m., a northbound car, travelling on Highway 20, crossed the centre line and collided with an oncoming SUV. The collision occurred near Gull Lake, at Township Rd 420.

The lone occupant of the car and one of the occupants of the SUV were pronounced dead at the scene. EMS transported an unreleased number of patients to a hospital in Red Deer.

A severely injured three-year-old boy was transported to Calgary by STARS Air Ambulance for medical treatment. The child’s condition was described as serious, life threatening.

Police have closed Highway 20 near the crash scene. An investigation into the collision is underway.
