Alberta Health Services has launched a new online service to help families talk about end-of-life care.

Conversations Matter helps people plan for a time when they might not be able to consent to care or be able to refuse care.

The interactive online tool is aimed at helping Albertans understand advance care planning before they enter into the health care system.

Calgarian Deb Cook says knowing her mother’s end-of-life wishes were being fulfilled created a sense of peace and was “worth its weight in gold.”

Cook’s mother developed Alzheimer disease in 2008 and died in 2011.

Dr. Verna Yiu, AHS’ Vice President Quality & Chief Medical Officer, says “there is a stigma around talking about end-of-life care”.

The website is designed for doctors, patients, and families.
