Staff at the long-term care facility in Carmangay says that the patients that had to be moved out are not faring well with the change.
The last of the 18 dementia and Alzheimers patients were moved out of the Little Bow Continuing Care Centre in Carmangay on Wednesday.
Officials say that since the move, two of the patients have died and the health of another is declining.
They say familiarity is key for dementia patients and that the move has created added stress.
The town’s mayor says that the closure of the facility strikes a major blow to the community.
A candlelight vigil will be held outside the facility at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
Carmangay is about an hour north of Lethbridge.
