Calgary police are investigating after a violent home invasion in the northeast late Sunday night sent two people to hospital with stab wounds.

At about 11:30 p.m., crews were called to a home in the 0-100 block of Beddington Drive N.E. for reports of a suspicious person seen in the area.

A short time later, there were reports of two people being stabbed inside a home.

Paramedics were called to that location and took the victims, a woman in her mid 30s and a man in his mid 60s, who were in critical condtion, to hospital.

Police managed to track the suspect to a nearby park and attempted to arrest him.

“There were three people inside the residence, I can’t say for sure if the two victims were related,” said CPS Duty Inspector Phil Hoetger

The suspect was found in traumatic condition reported through his own actions. EMS took him to Foothills Hospital where he later died.

Investigators say that he was not carrying any identification and they have no idea who he is.

“We don’t have the identity of the suspect and we also haven’t been able to fully interview the people from inside that house because of their injuries,” said Inspector Hoetger. “We don’t know who the suspect is. He didn’t have identification and we need to work through identification records, medical records, to try and determine his identity.”

Residents were surprised to see police throughout their community on Sunday night. "My wife and I were out late last night, taking the dog out and police came up all over the area here," said Scott Slade. "A couple doors down I noticed more than one ambulance pull up. I noticed a couple people being taken out on stretchers."

Slade said the next thing he knew police cars were heading into the park behind his home and HAWCS was overhead.

He said that the situation is a bit shocking. "We've never had anything like this happen before here. We've only been on this street for about five years, but I've never seen anything like this before. As soon as they told us to go into the house, we knew it was a pretty violent crime that had taken place."

Police say they are not looking for additional suspects and that there is no risk to the public.
