Kids will be back in school in less than two weeks and some will be enjoying some brand new buildings thanks to the Conservative government.

Westmount School in Okotoks and Sarah Thompson in Langdon are just two of 15 set to open this school year.

Westmount is a K-9 school with a capacity of 700 students.

That’s a good thing for the community because it’s grown almost 43 percent over the past five years.

In June, there was already a wait list of students looking to enter the school which was built using a public-private partnership.

Sarah Thompson in Langdon was named after the first person ever to teach in the community and for now, it will be only kindergarten to Grade 4.

Grade 5 students are expected to be able to enroll next year.

That school will be able to house 450 students and that’s good news because Langdon’s population has risen 43 percent over the past five years.

The schools are part of an overall promise by the Conservative government to build 50 new schools and renovate 70 over the next four years.

The development project comes at a cost of $2.4B.
