Administrators at the University of Calgary say the institution's computer systems have been crippled by malware and the issue is affecting access to the school's technology services.

On Saturday, the school announced that malicious software caused the outage of all of the U of C's computer systems, including e-mail, Skype services and wireless servers.

IT staff have since been able to restore the wireless network and Office 365 e-mail server, but the Exchange e-mail and Skype for Business are still out.

Officials say that it is safe to use UCalgary-issued computers to access UCalgary networks and applications but a number of accounts are still affected so those users will not have access.

Any affected users will be contacted personally to be given support and options to continue any critical work.

There is no estimate on when the problem will be fixed.

There is also no word on if any personal information was at risk because of the malware.

Updates are available on the University of Calgary website.
