Residents of a southeast community were alarmed to discover their homes and fences had been targeted by vandals overnight.

Graffiti, including swastikas, was spray-painted on the exterior walls of six residences in the neighbourhood of Midnapore.

The hateful vandalism has left residents visibly shaken.

“It's sort of unnerving when someone comes right onto your property, especially even over a fence, and then goes about destroying what you value,” said Norma, who requested CTV refrain from divulging her last name.

The Calgary Police Service Hate Crimes Unit is investigating the incident. According to CPS members, similar vandalism has been located in the neighbouring community of Sundance.

Anyone with information about the vandals is asked to contact the Calgary Police Service, 403-266-1234, or Crime Stoppers.
