Calgary police have one person in custody after a vehicle was stolen outside a school in Huntington Hills with a child in the back.

The incident happened just before 4:00 p.m. Wednesday. Police say a minivan was left parked outside Alex Munro Elementary School in the city's northeast with a four-year-old boy inside.

A man in his 20s jumped inside and drove off but only managed to get a short distance away before crashing through wooden dividers and cables along a green space, and high-centering the vehicle on a median.

The child was not injured in the incident and police have a suspect in custody. The male suspect, believed to be in his mid-twenties, was located by the CPS K9 unit at a home a short distance from the school.
