Thousands of vinyl records from every era were mulled over by people interested in the classic format.

Some are collectors, some are new to the hobby, but all were searching for just the right piece of vinyl, and it was a packed house.

“I went to the first one about 7 years ago, and there was nobody there, and now I can’t even walk around this place,” said Jeremy Andrew, music lover.

“Oh yeah, it’s not stuff you find every day, you gotta either go online or you just get lucky,” said Thomas Levine, musician.

The Calgary Music Collectors Show runs in the spring and fall, and is a chance for collectors from all over the province to share some stories and records. Aficionados say there is nothing quite like vinyl.

“There is a certain mystique to it,” said vinyl DJ Mark Kerrigan. “The fact that it’s a limited thing, it’s a tangible thing, every time you play it, it wears out a little bit, so there is something to it, it’s very tactile.”

Mark Corner organizes the event and says he's seen everything from teens starting their collections, right up to the hard core collectors.

“It's the classic rock from the 70s, and it's also a lot of the stuff from the 80s, cause a lot of the stuff from the 80s and 90s never came out on vinyl, and if it did it was very limited, so now those records are very sought after,” he said.

It’s not a bad place to make a buck, too. Rich Liukko came to the event to sell records, and with something for everyone, he's been busy.

“We're not oriented towards top 40, or just selling a few titles to people, it's like jazz, soul funk, reggae all the way down to heavy metal, some modern rock, classic, vintage surf garage, you name it,” he said.

Organizers say the event keeps growing every year as a classic music format makes a big comeback in the 21st Century.
