While the City of Calgary now has 21 murders this year so far, nearly the amount set in all of 2013; police are convinced that growing violence is not part of a trend.

In 2013, 22 people were murdered and 19 were murdered in 2012.

Investigators have a whole stack of files they’re working on now, with the most recent being a 49-year-old woman found dead inside a southeast four-plex unit.

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested and charged with second degree murder in connection with her death.

Police aren’t saying much more about that case other than the youth is being held at the Youth Correctional Centre.

Police are also waiting for the results of an autopsy conducted on the body of a young man who was found in a waterpark near 7 Avenue and 8 Street on Sunday night.

He was taken to hospital where he later died. Police don’t know if his death was an accident or not.

Police are also searching for suspects after a man was shot late Sunday night and left for dead.

He was hit in the torso while he was standing outside a home in Bowness.

He was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition but is now reportedly recovering.

Nevertheless, despite the recent increase in violence, police say the city is not becoming more violent.
