Calgary-based WestJet is expanding its summer schedule and is adding a few new non-stop flights to its network.

Starting this May, WestJet Encore will provide daily, non-stop service from Calgary to Terrace and Calgary to Yellowknife to cater to business travellers and tourists.

The airline has also added the same service from Calgary to Houston, which begins on September 8, 2015.

“We are so excited to offer WestJet’s low fares and friendly service to Houston, Texas, a highly requested route out of Calgary. New service to growing markets like Terrace or Yellowknife provide even more choices to travellers looking for friendly service, low fares and great connections to more than 90 destinations across WestJet’s network,“ said Chris Avery, WestJet Vice-President, Network Planning, Alliances and Corporate Development.”

They also announced an expansion to service in the east with flights from Halifax to Gander, Deer Lake and Sydney.

“Our belief is that Atlantic Canada is missing competitive airfares.  There's a lack of competition and a lack of choice for travellers here.  We’ve always had the belief that Canadians in remote parts of the country and small communities should have the right to air travel, it shouldn't be a privilege it's a right,” said Ferio Pugliese, President of WestJet Encore.

Flights from St. John’s to Dublin, Ireland will also resume in May and a new route from Halifax to Glasgow, Scotland starts on May 29.

WestJet serves 78 non-stop destinations and offers more than 200 flights a day.
