Officials with the Wildrose Party are set to announce their new interim leader on Monday morning in Calgary.

The party has been without a leader since former leader Danielle Smith vacated the position on December 17. Smith was one of nine Wildrose MLAs to cross the floor on Tuesday to join the PC Party.

While the Wildrose Party remains the official opposition for the time being, the mass exodus of MLAs has reduced the party’s representation in the Legislature.

Currently, the Wildrose Party and the Alberta Liberal Party hold the same number of seats. Speaker Gene Zwozdesky could make a ruling this week on whether the Wildrose will remain the official opposition.
