Residents of the southwest Calgary community of Wildwood do not want any part of an affordable housing project in their neighbourhood.

That was the message from the homeowners who attended a public meeting about the City of Calgary’s plans to build a 48 unit project in the community.

Residents say they’re concerned about privacy, security, and the impact the complex will have on parking in the area.

However, city officials insist the housing is needed and the site in Wildwood is perfect for it.

That has left many resident frustrated. “The city is just not listening to us,” says Rob Rodewyk, who has lived in the area for the past three years. “There’s no consultation. It was basically, they came in, bang, this is going to be built.”

Along with the homes, the complex could also include some commercial space or even a second site nearby.

City officials have a survey available on their website about the development. Submissions will be accepted until January 14.
