High winds made a mess of things throughout Calgary on Monday night, blowing over a lot of trees and knocking out power in many communities.

Crews were called out to clean up a couple of trees that had blown over, including one in Elboya.

The high winds were also the cause of a major power outage in Willow Park.

Nearly 3,000 customers were without power for about two hours as crews dealt with downed power lines.

North of Calgary, crews will have big job ahead of them in Sundre as several large trees were uprooted in the high winds.

Meantime, the organizers of GlobalFest have postponed Tuesday night’s fireworks show.

Officials say high-intensity winds have made conditions unsafe for the “Mexico Night” show to occur. It will now be held on Wednesday, August 24.

Those with tickets to Tuesday’s presentation will now be able to use their tickets on Wednesday.
