Woman charged in fatal hit and run near Penhold

A fatal ATV collision near Rivers claims two lives

Blue Hills RCMP say the search is continuing for a man knocked into fast flowing water at the Rivers Reservoir spillway.

An Alberta woman has turned herself in to RCMP and is now facing charges in connection to the death of a teen who was hit by a vehicle while longboarding on a highway in the area last week.

Police were called to the scene of a hit and run collision on Highway 592 west of Penhold on May 20 at about 10:30 p.m. for reports of a hit and run crash involving a pedestrian.

Trystan Sorensen, 18, of Penhold was hit and killed by an eastbound vehicle while longboarding on the side of the highway with a friend.

Innisfail RCMP launched an investigation and started searching for an SUV that was believed to be involved in the crash.

The next day, a 2003 Dodge Durango was reported stolen and was soon found burned out in a farmer’s field east of Innisfail.

Police contacted the registered owner and alleged driver on May 24th, and say she turned herself in to the Innisfail detachment.

Jessica Masyk, 25, of Penhold is charged with failing to remain at the scene of an accident, Public Mischief and Drive while Unauthorized.

Masyk was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday June 20^th.

Police are still investigating and are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision or provided assistance to the suspect to contact the Innisfail RCMP Detachment at 403 227 3342 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800 222-8477(TIPS).
