A 31-year-old Calgary woman faces seven charges for her alleged connection to an April 2012 rental con that duped several people out of their damage deposit.

According to police, Sarah Colleen Adams placed an advertisement on the Kijiji website seeking tenants for a rental property in the 100 block of Fonda Dr. S.E, a property that Adams did not own.

When prospective tenants responded to the ad, Adams identified herself as the landlord of the residence using the pseudonym Jenna Jerome and arranged a walk-through of the rental property. The viewings of the residence took place on Tuesday, April 17 and Wednesday, April 18.

The tenants who agreed to rent the property were informed they could move in at the end of April. Several of the victims supplied Adams with a deposit to secure the residence.

Sarah Colleen Adams has been charged with seven counts of fraud under $5,000.

Police believe there may be more victims of Adams' scam who have not yet come forward.

Adams is described as:

  • Caucasian female
  • 31-years-old
  • 153 cm (5') tall
  • 41 kg (90 lbs)
  • Brown hair
  • Green eyes
  • Has a tattoo consisting of the word ENVY and leaves on her neck

If you believe you were the victim of Adams' scam, you are asked to contact the Calgary Police Service or Crime Stoppers.

To prevent prospective tenants from becoming victims of rental scams,  the Calgary Police Service recommends:

  • tenants and landlords be suspicious of requests for wire service financial transactions
  • tenants and landlords refrain from supplying personal information
  • tenants be suspicious of significantly low rental rates compared to the average rental cost
