A 63-year-old woman, convicted of manslaughter in the shooting death of her husband, has been sentenced to four years in jail.

Heather Wilson-Duncan was convicted of manslaughter in November in the death of 68-year-old Barry Duncan on December 10, 2010.

She had originally been charged with second-degree murder, but she and her lawyer maintained that the whole incident was a tragic accident.

During the trial, Wilson-Duncan told the court that they had been fighting on the night the death occurred.

She says her husband handed her a gun and told her to shoot him.

Wilson-Duncan claimed that she wasn’t aware the gun was loaded and the next thing she knew, he was on the ground.

The sentence is the minimum allowed for the charge of manslaughter.
