Emergency crews descended on the Bow River early Wednesday morning to rescue two women who were in the water.

At about 5:00, the Calgary Fire Department, STARS, EMS, and the Calgary Police Service responded to a report of two women in the water.

According to a release, one woman went into the river near the Centre St. bridge while the other jumped in to help her.

Both of the women are reportedly known to each other.

One of the women was located about 10 minutes later when she made it to shore.

She was found by the CFD Aquatic Rescue Unit and handed over to EMS care.

A short time later, STARS located the other woman in the Bow River near the Bird Sanctuary.

She apparently went through the Harvie Passage.

She was also taken from the water and both women were transported to hospital.

The incident is under investigation.
