A young male driver from Canmore is facing dangerous driving charges after he was nabbed driving 149 km/h over the posted speed limit in Banff National Park.

Alberta Sheriffs and Bow Valley RCMP say they stopped and charged a young man, possessing an Alberta learner’s licence, after he was recorded at 209 km/h in a 60 km/h zone on the Bow Valley Parkway.

A man from Pincourt, Quebec, who was acting as the younger man’s supervisor, is facing similar charges.

Police say that supervisors of young drivers can be held responsible for their wrongful action as well.

Both were released on a Promise to Appear on August 19.

Police say that this case is particularly concerning because Bow Valley Parkway is commonly used for wildlife viewing by many motorists and it is also a place often used by cyclists.
