The suspect in a New Year’s Eve shooting in the town of Stettler which left a 37-year-old man seriously wounded remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing.
33-year-old Darren James Bauer, of no fixed address, was identified as the suspected shooter following an afternoon altercation which began with a traffic collision. Police determined Bauer and the victim knew each other, and were both known to police.
The victim was transported to hospital by STARS Air Ambulance.
Bauer was apprehended in Calgary on January 1 while driving a stolen vehicle.
Bauer has been charged with:
- Possess a Restricted Weapon while Prohibited from doing so
- Possess a Prohibited Weapon while Prohibited from doing so
- Possession of Stolen Property over $5000
- Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Breach of Recognizance (two counts)
- Possession of a Weapon For the Purpose of Committing an Offence
- Careless Use of a Firearm
- Drive while Unauthorized
- Possession of a Drug for the purpose of Trafficking
- Discharge of a Firearm with Intent to Injure
A second suspect has been charged following the RCMP investigation into the New Year’s Eve shooting in Stettler.
25-year-old Kathleen Sherry Cooper faces charges of:
- Possession of Stolen Property over $5000
- Breach of Recognizance
In addition to the charges related to the December 31 shooting, Cooper faces nine undisclosed outstanding charges.
