A house in the northeast community of Beddington has been decimated by fire but the home's occupants, both human and canine, are safe.
At approximately 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, firefighters were called to the home on Bedridge Dr. N.E. after a passerby spotted smoke and flames . The first crew on scene called for a second alarm and additional trucks were deployed.
Calgary Fire Department spokesperson Carol Henke says two dogs were in the home at the time of the fire but are safe and accounted for. A neighbour entered the burning home and rescued the family's pets from the house. No one was in the home when the blaze began.
The roof of the home suffered severe damage in the blaze and collapsed into the structure.
The fire department says damage to the house is extensive and an investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
