It’s a big win for an Airdrie teen and her crusade to make bullies more accountable for their actions.

Airdrie City Council voted on Monday to change its bylaws in an attempt to curb bullying.

Mackenzie Murphy, one of the bylaw’s biggest advocates, says she was bulled online so much that she attempted suicide.

Mackenzie’s mother is thrilled that the bylaw change came about so quickly.

Under the new law in Airdrie bullies can be fined $500 for a first offence.

A following offence carries a total fine of $1,000.
