Arson units are now leading the investigation into a two alarm fire that gutted a two storey building in northeast Calgary that housed several businesses.

Crews are still on scene putting out hot spots in the wreckage of the building in the 5100 block of 47 St. N.E. that caught fire at around 1:45 a.m. on Monday.

When crews arrived, they found flames shooting out of the front of the building and had to call a second alarm to control the blaze.

It only took crews an hour to gain the upper hand on the fire but the damage is considered extensive.

Several businesses were destroyed in the fire and the front and several vehicles parked nearby sustained extensive damage.

No one was hurt.

Investigators are still working to determine a cause.

There is no word on a damage estimate.
