ASIRT investigating in-custody death in southwest Calgary
CALGARY -- The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team has been called in to investigate an in-custody death in southwest Calgary.
EMS was called to the 2400 block of Erlton Road S.W. about 6 a.m. to assist a man believed to be experiencing a mental health crisis.
Police said in a release the man became combative with paramedics and officers were called to assist.
"As the man was taken into custody, he experienced a medical crisis," read the release. "Paramedics assisted and transported the man to hospital where he was later declared deceased."
No other information is being released
ASIRT investigates whenever someone is seriously injured or dies while in custody in the province.
