Three girls are now facing assault charges after an alleged bullying incident in Chestermere.

The RCMP says three girls, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, were originally charged with causing a disturbance in connection with the case.

But after consultation with prosecutors, new charges were laid. Police say at least some of the girls originally charged with causing a disturbance are now facing an additional charge of assault.

RCMP officers have been investigating a lunch hour argument on March 15 that police say escalated into a physical fight between at least three girls.

One of the girls suffered minor injuries.

The fight involved students at St. Gabriel the Archangel school in Chestermere.

Police say they are working with staff at the school to determine if any bullying is happening at the school and how to address problems between students.
