The issue of body checking in junior hockey leagues is on the agenda as Hockey Calgary is set to hold its annual meeting on Saturday.

There is a vote expected on the issue that has been long debated over the past few years.

If the vote passes, the rule would come into effect this coming season.

Supporters and opposition to the proposal to eliminate all forms of body checking from the PeeWee level last met back in April.

Some say it will make the game safer for players while others say it will change it for the worse.

The proposal came after a five year study that found that kids who body check at the PeeWee level are three times more likely to suffer a concussion or major injury.

According to the proposal, Hockey Calgary will still allow players to learn body checking during practice but will not be able to apply that knowledge during games.

Hockey Canada has already adopted a policy of zero tolerance towards hits to the head, enacted far prior to the hit that sidelined Penguins forward Sidney Crosby nearly the whole 2012 season.

The AGM is scheduled at the Radisson Hotel tomorrow at 1 p.m.
