A 16-year-old boy has pleaded guilty to four charges involving the sexual assault of a minor in a northwest park earlier this month.

Police were called to a park in Silver Springs on July 3rd at about 7:30 p.m. for reports of an assault on a minor.

An eight-year-old girl and her ten-year-old friend were playing near the intersection of 61 Avenue and Silver Mead Crescent N.W. when they were approached by a teenaged boy.

The boy lured the eight-year-old girl to some nearby bushes and allegedly assaulted her.

The attack was interrupted by a neighbour and the boy ran from the scene.

The boy was charged with sexual assault, sexual interference with a child under 16, uttering threats, and two counts of failing to comply with an undertaking.

He is being held in custody for violating a previous no-contact order.

His identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act and he will be sentenced in late August.
