A group of Calgarians got together on Wednesday evening to hold a vigil to honour the 10 people who died as a result of the bus attack in Toronto on Monday.

Organizers say the event was planned to give Calgarians a chance to remember the victims who died and share messages of peace, solidarity and condolence to their families.

Emily McMillan, organizer of the vigil, says the event’s aim was to gather the community together to respect the dead.

“The biggest thing, just as Canadians in general, is the feeling that we are all united across any type of border and that Canada is made up of people that are from many different countries and cities and it’s important to show solidarity as Canadians with other Canadians.”

A large banner was also available for attendees to write a message to the families of the victims.

Calgary’s event is one of many similar ones occurring across the country.
