New Year’s Eve party goers are being reminded to plan carefully and have alternatives available before they head out the door in Calgary on Tuesday night.

Availability of taxi cabs has always been a long-standing issue in the City of Calgary, but the major taxi companies say they will have their full fleets on the road for customers.

An estimated 1,300 cabs will be available for people to get around.

They’ll normally be at taxi stands, but companies say that pre-booking is a good idea to secure yourself a spot.

By doing that, you’ll save yourself time hanging around on the phone.

If you manage to get another taxi in the meantime, companies suggest that you contact them and cancel your request.

Patience is, however, the best virtue on New Year’s Eve, they say.

If all else fails, you should have alternative ways to get home, like using transit or having a designated driver.
