CTV News has learned a prominent Calgary doctor has now been arrested by police.

Dr. Aubrey Levin is a well known forensic psychiatrist who has testified at a number of Calgary court cases.

He works out of the Peter Lougheed Centre and has also served as an adjunct professor at the University of Calgary.

CTV News has confirmed that Levin has also been suspended by the Alberta College of Physicians and Surgeons.

He was suspended after a complaint was made by a patient.

The college only suspends doctors from practicing if it feels the public could be put at risk.

Officials say Levin has a clean disciplinary record since he arrived in Alberta after leaving from South Africa.

Attempts by CTV News to contact Dr. Levin Tuesday afternoon were unsuccessful.

No details about the police investigation have been released but it is anticipated that investigators will comment on the case later tonight.
