A Calgary Imam is leading a group of three dozen Imams to take a formal stand against ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria), denouncing the terror group and its recruitment campaign.

Imam Syed Soharwardy with Calgary based Islamic Supreme Council of Canada, says they’re issuing the Fatwa based upon the guidance of Allah, “There are versus in the holy Qur’an which requires from all the Imams to speak against any evil that they see is hurting the Muslim community and that’s why we Imams are trying to fulfill that responsibility that our religion has bestowed upon us.”

The Islamic Supreme Council of Canada says the Fatwa has been issued to help Muslims understand how ISIS/ISIL is violating what Islamic laws and ethics stand for.

Soharwardy says the constant misinterpretation and misuse of the verses of the Holy Qur’an and Hadith of Prophet Muhammad by the ISIS/ISIL to control Muslim lands and people should be exposed and condemned.

Soharwardy says they’re hoping this Fatwa will help Muslims and non-Muslims understand what Islam requires from its followers.

He says they’re encouraging Muslim Imams to endorse the Fatwa or to issue their own.
