Officers with the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams have arrested and charged a 53-year-old Calgary man in connection with a million dollar grow-op in the southeast.

Ping Ming Liu was arrested without incident on March 20 following a five month long investigation.

Liu has been charged with:

  • Production of marihuana
  • Possession of marihuana
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking
  • Mischief to property

In August 2013, police located evidence of a grow-op operating in an industrial rental unit in the Airways Industrial area in northeast Calgary.

A few months later, officers found a fully operational, 814 plant grow op in a similar unit in the Foothills Industrial area.

They estimate the drugs in the building were worth more than $1M.

In both areas, authorities found significant damage to the rental units.

City of Calgary building inspectors and officials with Alberta Health Services have found the units to be unfit for human habitation.
