More than 400 volunteers are helping Santa and his elves load up all kinds of different items for needy families in Calgary on Christmas eve.

Toys, clothing, gift cards, and food were delivered to about 350 families in the Christmas tradition that's now in it's 29th year.

19 Calgary Transit buses were dispatched to help the volunteers distribute the food hampers to the less fortunate.

Volunteer Jim Brown finds the experience very rewarding. "When you get out there and see the first-hand impact on people's lives, if only for one day, that is pretty special."

"I like it because my family gets to watch and they get presents and all that too," says 11-year-old Erica.

Santa also be made stops at hospitals, care centres, and other organizations throughout the city that help people in need.
