A local organization is distributing hundreds of shoeboxes filled with items desperately needed by women in Calgary to help boost their spirits this holiday season.

The gift drive, called the Shoebox Project for Shelters, provides small items for women in shelters across Canada that help enhance their self-esteem and reduce their feelings of isolation.

Organizers say the event is just part a much larger campaign to deliver over 36,000 annually to hundreds of communities across North America.

“They make changes in their lives that are obviously for the better, but it’s also a very challenging time to be going through, especially when family is such a big focus at this time of year,” said Michael Tandara with Dream Calgary.

Details on the Shoebox Project can be found on the organization’s official website.
