A Canmore man who was known to be an expert kayaker has disappeared while on the water near Whistler.
RCMP say that 19-year-old Peter Thompson disappeared when he went over a waterfall on the Cheakamus River.
He never came back up and is presumed drowned.
Thompson was an avid outdoor enthusiast and an experience kayaker who taught others the sport.
Police have called off the search for his body.
