The city is putting on a New Year’s Eve extravaganza with a children’s dance party, fireworks and a countdown to 2018 that will include a ball drop at midnight.

The events will wrap up Canada 150 celebrations for the city and for the first time it will be capped off with a ball drop followed by the fireworks from a Calgary landmark.

“When we hit midnight, we hope everybody's attention will be drawn to the Calgary Tower where we are setting off fireworks for the very first time because it's the 50th anniversary of the Calgary Tower in 2018,” said Sarah Iley, from the City of Calgary.

A family dance party is being held in the Municipal Building atrium and includes a glow-in-the-dark resolution wall and a countdown just for the kids that gets started at 9:00 p.m.
