CALGARY -- **UPDATE: All charges against Daniel Madsen and the 38-year-old woman were withdrawn in June 2021 while Christopher Dutka was convicted on both his charges and awaits sentencing. Two men and a woman face charges after police raided a home in the northwest neighbourhood of Banff Trail and a residence in Strathmore as part of an investigation into suspected drug trafficking.

On April 28, Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) members — aided by Calgary Police Service and Strathmore RCMP — searched a home in the 2400 block of 21st Street N.W.,  and a home on Brentwood Drive in Strathmore, along with several vehicles including a truck and a motorcycle.

The search of the Calgary home yielded:

  • A loaded shotgun
  • A loaded handgun
  • Three rifles; and,
  • 0.7 grams of cocaine.

During the search of the Strathmore home, officers seized:

  • 103 grams of cocaine;
  • 200 grams of cannabis; and,
  • $370 in cash.

A total of $13,987 in cash was seized during the searches of the vehicles. ALERT officials confirm both vehicles were associated with Christopher Dutka.

Three people were arrested in connection with the drug trafficking investigation and subsequently charged with drug and weapon-related offences:

  • Christopher Dutka, 37, of Strathmore, was charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime.
  • Daniel Madson, 35, of Calgary, was charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance, one count of possession of a firearm at an unauthorized place, and four counts of unsafe storage of a firearm.
  • A 38-year-old Calgary woman was charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance and four counts of unsafe storage of a firearm.

ALERT officials confirm the accused are known to police and the five firearms will undergo forensic analysis and ballistics testing.
