Calgary fire crews had to scale to the top of a northeast shopping centre on Tuesday night to put out a fire that broke out on the roof.

The CFD was called to the scene at about 7:30 p.m. after shoppers noticed smoke filling the mall.

They evacuated Marlborough Mall as a precaution and further investigation uncovered a small fire on the roof.

District Chief Bruce Gelhorn says the fire was near a small ventilation unit.

The fire was put out and the mall was ventilated.

The exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but roof work has been done recently.

No one was injured in the fire.
