A 46-year-old man faces three charges following a Calgary Police Service investigation into reports a young child had been kissed and asked to touch the man in an inappropriate manner at a private dayhome.

A police investigation was launched earlier this week after the young child, age and gender not disclosed to protect the victim’s identity, told someone of the interactions with the man.

According to police, the alleged assaults occurred sometime between September 2013 and May 2016 while the child attended Little Footprints Dayhome, a private, non-licensed care centre in Royal Oak.

The accused, 46-year-old Jason David Mitchell lives and works at the dayhome located on Royal Ridge Terrace Northwest.

As a result of the investigation, Mitchell has been charged with:

  • Sexual assault
  • Sexual interference
  • Invitation to sexual touching

The unnamed operator of Little Footprints Dayhome also resides in the home and, according to police, has been unwilling to release details regarding the dayhome’s current and past clients.

CPS Staff Sergeant Melanie Oncescu says, to her knowledge, the dayhome continues to operate.

"We're working with the Crown to set some conditions," said Oncescu. "At this point in time we have not made any authorative decision to close the dayhome."

Investigators are attempting to contact all parents and guardians of children who attend or have attended Little Footprints Dayhome.

"We don't have information at this point in time that there are other victims."
