A Calgary psychiatrist, who assessed accused criminals in the Alberta justice system, will stand trial on charges of sexual assault.

Dr. Aubrey Levin is accused of sexually assaulting men, who had been ordered by a judge to see him

Dr. Levin was charged in March of last year after a single patient came forward with his claims.

A tip line set up by police resulted in more alleged victims and an additional 20 charges.

On Tuesday, a judge decided that Levin will stand trial but not on all 21 counts.

Eleven of the charges have been withdrawn and Levin's lawyer Alain Hepner can't say why some were thrown out because of a ban on publication.

Hepner can say that the reduction in charges is a relief to his client.

"I started the file with 21 victims, 21 cases, and now that's down to 10 so I think he's grateful for that," said Hepner.

A trial date for Dr. Levin will be set on August 19th.
