The community of Forest Lawn often gets a bad rap but a high school drama club is trying to change that.

Students at Forest lawn High School are putting their ideas into theatre to show others what a great community they live in.

The diversity of the students has created the Forest Lawn Project which is a Calgary 2012 Artist in Residence Project directed by Mat Mailandt.

The kids are broken up into groups and have come up with their own skits to show what it's like to be an outsider and how the community can work together to make the school and neighbourhood a better place for everyone.

“They're literally from every corner of the world. There are different levels of English. Some of them have only been here six months, others their whole lives, but despite the fact that there are communication barriers there's a desire to communicate, they want to share their stories and they really bonded,” said Mailandt.

The high school actors will perform their show on November 21st and 22nd at the Forest Lawn High School theatre.

The performance is open to the public.
