A man driving a motorcycle died and his female passenger sent to hospital when they crashed into a pickup truck on Highway 22 Saturday.

At about 12:30 on Saturday, paramedics were called to the scene where a motorcycle carrying two passengers slammed into the back of a pickup truck.

The truck was waiting to make a left hand turn into a business off of the highway.

Since the accident occurred at highway speeds, both riders were thrown about 12 metres.

STARS flew the 22-year-old female passenger, who is in serious condition, to Foothills Hospital.

The 39-year-old male driver of the bike was transported by ground ambulance, but died on his way to the hospital.

Police have now reopened Highway 22 in both directions south of Highway 8.

They are investigating the cause of the crash, but don't believe alcohol was a factor.

Police are withholding the names of the deceased pending notification of next of kin.
