CALGARY -- Speed and alcohol are being looked at as factors in a fatal crash late Saturday that saw a vehicle leave the road and land upside down in a northwest Calgary parking lot.

Police say a white Mazda A3i was travelling east on 112th Avenue N.W. at high speed just before midnight when it missed a curve in the road and crossed Sarcee Trail before going through a fence and over an embankment, landing in the Home Depot parking lot at the Beacon Hill Shopping Centre.

The driver, a 44-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The CPS Traffic Section has taken over the investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 403-266-1234 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
