The ribbon was cut on a new performance space in the East Village on Wednesday that will host local musicians and artists.

The City of Quebec, Calgary’s sister city, gifted the music pavilion for the Stampede’s Centennial celebration and now the space along the RiverWalk is ready to use.

Quebec band, Tire le Coyote, christened the stage with a musical performance over the lunch hour and a number of dignitaries were on hand for the celebration including Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi and the Deputy Mayor of Quebec City, Michelle Morin-Doyle.

The $285,000 pavilion can host intimate music and arts performances and a free concert will take place in the space on Wednesday evening starting at 8:00 p.m.
