A Calgary family is grieving the loss of a son and a brother after a crash Saturday night in the southeast.

Travis Joe Meissinger, affectionately known as "T" by loved ones, died in the crash.

His mother tells CTV he was a great son who grew up in a very tight-knit family.

He helped out with the family business whenever he could.

He was a team player who was well respected by his hockey peers, and loved by his friends.

Meissinger was the passenger in a car that crashed Saturday night.

The black car was eastbound on Dover Ridge Drive when the driver lost control and hit several parked cars.

Meissinger was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 21-year-old driver was taken to Foothills Hospital in serious condition.

Police say alcohol and a high rate of speed are believed to be factors.
